Most managers now receive leadership training to some extent; the two challenges most consistently raised in this area are
At Performance Coach Training, we deal with the first challenge by ensuring that every module on our programme gives the words, phrases, attitudes and actions that will ensure a leadership concept is put into practice; our guiding principle is that if a module does not leave managers with a specific new skill that they can immediately take and use in their workplaces, that module does not get into the programme.
Our courses are practical, specific and related to real situations in the workplace based on Carol Wilson’s experience of 25 years as a corporate Board Director and MD, her 10 years of working closely with coaching style leader Sir Richard Branson, and the examples which are elicited from the participants during the training.
There are two main reasons why training courses, however excellent, fail to take effect:
Learning a new skill, whether how to lead or ride a bike, takes practice. Executives are unlikely to risk an awkward exchange with their teams by trying something new, however well it worked in the training room. We overcome this challenge by running all of our programmes in two or more segments, at least one month apart, with weekly practice between participants in between.
This practice can be done by phone for participants in different locations, and the final part can be delivered by conference call if it is impractical to fly participants into face to face training.
We constantly receive feedback that the most valuable part of the training was the practice in between. The benefits are:
One of the managers we trained, a senior corporate sales manager who had received a great deal of training over the years, said “all training should be run like this!”
We always spend some time working out with the organisation what it is you want to achieve from the programme and work back from there. Benefits can be:
The accreditation criteria, standards and ethics of the training reflect those of the UK's independent coaching body, The Association for Coaching, of which Sir John Whitmore is Honorary Vice President and Carol Wilson is Head of Accreditation.
The style of the training is learning by doing. This is a very practical approach in which participants will have the opportunity to practise both coaching and training and to get feedback from our trainers and each other during the programme.
We provide course materials at various levels from slides with notes attached, fully comprehensive manuals and workbooks, in-house handbooks written especially for your organisation and reduced price copies of Sir John Whitmore’s ‘Coaching for Performance’ and Carol Wilson’s ‘Best Practice in Performance Coaching’.
We are committed to ensuring that the impact of our interventions with your organisation is captured in a way that is meaningful to your business. We will work with you to develop a method that meets your specific requirements and gives you the information that you need throughout the programme.
All modules will be specifically tailored to examples relevant to your organisation
We are skilled at integrating your existing leadership and coaching models and methods into our programmes so that investment in prior learning is not lost.
All our trainers are highly experienced executive performance coaches and are chosen for their rapport skills and ability to create a safe but stimulating learning environment.
